"Hello 2021"

Even though last year was dominated by the pandemic, or maybe because of it, local agriculture has never been discussed as fervently as it was in 2020. So we will look back at the year and try to learn its lessons, while looking forward to 2021 and beyond, with confidence and ambition!

Remembering 2020

Needless to say, for us at MaYA, it was a year which kept us even busier than usual. Here's a rundown of some of the highlights:

Collaborations & Consultations

Building on the synergy created in previous years, 2020 was a year full of collaborations with other NGOs and the private sector, while also giving our input in various public consultations. Amongst these we have provided feedback on the:

- EU funding in particular Measure 6.1

Policy

Throughout the year, MaYA representatives held various meetings with relevant government departments and authorities including official meetings with the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Animal Rights, the Minister for the Environment, Climate Change & Planning and the Parliamentary Secretary responsible for EU Funds.

Advocacy & Awareness

2020 also meant a strong presence in the community, reaching viewers and readers both through our socials and on traditional media. COVID-19 was of course a main theme, but we also discussed water scarcity, urban sprawl, together with regular articles featuring young farmers and breeders.

Assisting our supporters

Even though our organisational structure is purposely not based on membership, we still receive regular requests for technical support. 2020 was dominated by enquiries for exemptions regarding quarantine measures, planning and permitting issues, along with matters about pesticides and New Water.

Where we're at

With a brand new website and embracing current social media platforms, this year we are set to reach out further to the local community. For further insight on our 2021 manifesto intentions please click here.
