Following the first discussions held in Brussels, the EU CAP Network Thematic Group on Farm Diversification reconvened in Rome for its second meeting, bringing together stakeholders from across Europe to continue shaping ideas on how farm businesses can become more resilient, sustainable, and future-oriented.
Representing Malta Youth in Agriculture (MaYA), Janie Vassallo contributed to the exchange by sharing Malta’s perspective on farm diversification, youth engagement, and the realities faced by small-scale farming communities.
The discussions focused on the opportunities and challenges of farm diversification, the effectiveness of current CAP and wider policy frameworks, and how farmers can strengthen their incomes. Participants also worked on shaping ideas for the next EU policy framework on farm diversification, outlining key priorities for future support mechanisms. For Malta, this is more than exchanges and brainstorming, it is the essence of a bottom-up approach that the country’s structure profoundly needs to have an impact and a voice at EU level.
Janie also delivered a presentation on MaYA and farm diversification in Malta, sharing insights on youth engagement, rural resilience, and the importance of supportive policy environments.
A valuable exchange of ideas on building stronger, more sustainable rural communities across Europe.
