GreenFit Project Kick Off

The MaYA Foundation, together with Merill Rural Network, is proud to represent Malta in the EU-funded GreenFit Project. We were invited to Thessaloniki, Greece, for the official kick-off meeting of this initiative, which supports the transition to climate-smart agriculture through collaboration between key national experts. Over two full days, we connected with partners from more than seven countries; researchers, IT professionals, entrepreneurs and agriculture-based pilot organisations, all committed to creating real solutions to foster agriculture resilience towards current and future challenges.

The GreenFit Project, officially titled “Green Resilience through Economic Empowerment, Environmental Knowledge, and Future-Proof Digital Infrastructure”, will run from October 2025 to October 2028. Its goal is to test innovative technologies in real-world conditions, understand the barriers farmers face when adopting new practices, and explore opportunities for livelihood development together. From artificial intelligence to augmented reality, technologies will be applied and analysed depending on local constraints such as climate, economy, and geography. We aim to contribute meaningful data and recommendations that reflect Malta’s unique context.

However, the project’s true strength lies in its people. Through interviews, surveys, community workshops, and on-the-ground testing, we will help identify what works - and what doesn’t - in the local setting. This collaboration offers a rare opportunity to connect practical knowledge with broader strategies, co-creating solutions that are grounded, sustainable, and future-ready.
