The MaYA Foundation is delighted to celebrate Ryan Portelli, the first-ever Maltese winner of the Young Farmers Award at the EPP’s European Congress of Young Farmers. His recognition follows a nomination by PN MEP Peter Agius; at just 22, Ryan is leading the way in sustainable agriculture through his work on the EU-funded Syneco project, which turns animal waste into clean energy and high-quality fertiliser.
At Maya, our mission is to support innovative solutions that protect Malta’s environment and strengthen our food systems. Ryan’s achievements reflect exactly the kind of forward-thinking, circular agriculture we champion. With tools like Syneco’s CropManager app, farmers can now make data-driven decisions that reduce waste, improve soil health, and boost efficiency - circular and sustainable practices that make up the core of our work. The initiative reflects the potential of circular, data-driven approaches to grow and remain within reach for all Maltese farmers.
Well done Ryan and team!
